Line Fire Update 9/18/2024

September 18, 2024

Dear Families and Staff,
We are prepared to reopen schools tomorrow, September 19th. We assure you that our students and staff's safety and well-being remain our top priority. We are pleased to share that the San Bernardino County Sheriff, San Bernardino County Emergency Services, and Cal Fire have provided information for our decision to reopen schools, ensuring that it is safe for our students and staff to return.
We have worked closely with our maintenance and custodial teams to create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. We are actively monitoring the air quality, which is currently at a moderate level. We will continue to monitor air quality conditions closely to ensure the safety of everyone at school sites. Air purifiers have been placed in classrooms, and thorough cleaning has been done to prepare all areas for our students' and staff’s safe return.

In addition, we have established emergency procedures and are confident in our preparedness to respond to any potential emergencies or disasters in our mountain community.

Mental health resources will be available for students, and our staff has received training in recognizing age-appropriate signs of distress and teaching coping mechanisms. We are grateful to Rim Family Services for providing this valuable support.  Additional resources for students and families can be accessed at caresolace.org/rimsd.
We look forward to seeing our students back at school tomorrow and remain committed to supporting our families during this time.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Sevillano

Line Fire Update 9/13/2024

Dear Families and Staff,

We hope this message finds your loved ones safe and well. As we enter day five of evacuation orders and warnings impacting our school district due to the Line Fire, we continue to receive updates from the San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services and partners.

Please note that all schools will remain closed next week from Monday, September 16, through Friday, September 20, 2024, or until further notice. We will continue providing daily updates to inform our families of any evacuation and warning order changes, including our community's air quality and the reopening of our schools.

If school closures extend beyond next week, we will implement the Learning Continuity Plan starting September 23, 2024. Our district staff is collaborating with teachers to prepare for this transition. Students will be able to complete their assignments online using the Google Classroom platform. Families will receive Short-term Independent Study agreements that require parent and guardian signatures to participate in the Learning Continuity Plan.

In the meantime, we have provided a list of learning resources students can use independently during the week. We will also send out additional information next week for families needing to check out a Chromebook or Wi-Fi hotspot for online learning.

Please see below the ROWUSD Instructional Continuity Resources by Grade Level. These resources are designed to support your child's learning during school closures. We encourage you to review and utilize the materials to keep students engaged in their education this next week.

Our commitment is to ensure the safety of our students, and we are committed to getting them back in their classrooms, where they can engage in learning and receive the social, mental, and emotional support they need. We recognize the importance of a safe, supportive classroom environment for your child’s development and success.

Thank you for your continued patience, understanding, and cooperation. We will get through this together. Our school community's safety remains our top priority.

Line Fire Update 9/12/2024

Dear Families and Staff,

Our thoughts are with your families and loved ones, and we hope this message finds you safe and well. We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families is our top priority during this time.

In response to the fire evacuations, warnings, and poor air quality, we collaborate daily with local and state authorities and emergency services to monitor the situation closely within our community. We understand the ongoing impact on our families and staff. All schools in the district will remain closed for the rest of this week or until further notice. We will provide daily updates through our website, email, and social media channels to inform our families and staff about any changes or additional information.

We understand the concerns of these uncertain times, and we are committed to maintaining our students' education while prioritizing their safety. The new law requires school districts must develop and share a Learning Continuity with families on the fifth day of a school closure.  On Friday, September 13th, 2024, we will share details regarding the new state requirements for our Learning Continuity Plan. This plan is designed to keep our students engaged and learning, even when evacuations and safety warnings may temporarily disrupt our everyday routines. Our proactive approach ensures your children can access their education remotely without losing valuable learning time.

Thank you to those of you who have already completed the school survey. Your feedback helps us make informed decisions about serving our students, families, and community. For those parents and guardians who haven’t had the chance to participate yet, we kindly remind you to complete the survey as soon as possible. Your input makes a difference in shaping the Learning Continuity Plan during this challenge and in the future if needed. We want to ensure we have heard from every family. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making our school an excellent place for learning and growth. Please stay tuned for further communication on how these plans will be implemented to support our students through this fire challenge. The survey can be found at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdcoVWrApU9-dmvpgcOEpnpE6bNM5rgCbgg7Ta2CnSPiJ7JaA/viewform

We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and resilience as we navigate this together. Stay safe, and thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Sevillano

Line Fire Update 9/11/2024

Dear Rim of the World Families and Staff,

We hope this message finds your families safe and well. As we navigate these uncertain times, we want to inform you that all schools in our district will remain closed through the end of this week, September 13th, or until further notice. We understand this may be challenging for many families, and we are here to help support your family during these times.  Our top priority is the safety of our students, families, and staff, and we are closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with local authorities and emergency services.

In light of the closure and the ongoing Line Fire and its impact on our community, as required by a new state law, school districts must develop and share a Learning Continuity Plan with families on the fifth day of a school closure. Details about the plan will be shared on Friday, September 13th.  We are actively working on this alternative learning plan to ensure students can continue their education remotely if the closures are extended into next week or later. In the meantime, we kindly ask that parents and guardians complete the survey sent today, September 11th, as soon as possible. Your feedback is incredibly valuable in helping us shape a plan that meets the needs of our students and families.

Lastly, we want to remind you that the School Board will meet in person this week on Thursday, September 12th, 2024. The Board will meet in closed session at 4:00 pm, followed by a public meeting session at 5:30 pm. We encourage you to join us at the District Office.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation. We are all in this together, and we remain committed to supporting our students, families, and staff through these challenging times. Please stay safe. We will provide daily updates through our website, email, and social media channels to inform you about any changes or additional information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paul Sevillano
Superintendent
Rim of the World Unified School District

Line Fire Update 9/10/2024

Dear Rim of the World Families and Staff,

We hope your family and loved ones stay safe and well during this challenging time. As you may know, the Line Fire has prompted mandatory evacuations and warning alerts for our school district communities.  As the line fire continues to affect our community, we assure you that we remain in close contact with the San Bernardino County of Emergency Services and will continue to provide daily updates to keep you informed.

Due to the ongoing mandatory evacuations and unhealthy air quality, all schools will remain closed for the rest of the week. We understand the challenges this presents, and the safety of our students, families, and staff remains our top priority.

In keeping with new state requirements, we are working on a Learning Continuity Plan to ensure your children continue to receive educational support for the coming week as needed if we remain on school closures. We will share the details of this plan with you as we near the fifth day of the closure. We’re also collaborating with local partners to ensure that the plan meets the needs of all students and families.

Tomorrow, September 11th, we will send out a survey to better understand each family’s situation and their ability to start a learning program if needed in the days ahead. Your feedback is very important in helping us plan, so we kindly ask all parents and guardians to please complete and submit their responses as soon as possible.

Thank you for your prompt attention and cooperation. Stay safe; we will continue providing daily updates as we receive more information.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Sevillano
Superintendent
Rim of the World Unified School District
