Elementary band is offered once a week at all district elementary schools. Band is open to all students in 4th or 5th grade in good academic and disciplinary standing. Joining band is a great opportunity to learn to read music and play an instrument, as well as get involved with the outstanding music program here in our district.
Research has shown that music education helps increase test scores and is an important contributor to students' mental health and well-being. Music involves multi-tasking, using abilities in language, math, coding, art, communication, and responsibility. Involvement in music programs also helps students grow a positive social circle of close friends.
There are three ways to get an instrument: borrow, rent, or buy. A select number of instruments can be borrowed through the school your child attends. There are a limited number and only a select few instruments, but there is no cost. If your student would like to play an instrument that the school does not have, you are welcome to rent an instrument from Nick Rail Music in Redlands or Bertrands Music in San Bernardino. Depending on the instrument, rentals are between $20-50 for a completely functional and decent quality instrument. Finally, you may purchase an instrument for your child to use, however, I do not recommend that option. Please contact me if you're considering purchasing an instrument. I do not want anyone spending money on a poor-quality instrument.
If you have any questions about the program, feel free to reach out!
